From the observation platform of this tower, Catherine II and the Austrian Emperor Joseph II admired the city landscape. And today a panoramic view of the Zadneprovie and a picturesque bend of the main water artery of the city, the Dnieper, opens from here. And through panoramic binoculars you can see the whole Mogilev. The octagonal building of the stone town hall with a height of 46 meters on the Market Square (the present Square of Glory) was built in 1679. Since then, it has been destroyed and rebuilt many times. The last time the town hall was restored in 2008, it became a place of attraction for locals and tourists. Mogilev residents arrange wedding photo shoots here, and tourists go to the museum of the city's history, the exhibition halls of which occupy two floors. There are two unique things in the town hall: a tower clock, the mechanism of which is driven by heavy weights, and a mechanical figurine of a bugler boy Mogislav, as the locals call him. Three times a day, Mogislav blows a fanfare on the balcony of the town hall: at 12.00, 20.00 and at the moment when the sun sets in the city. And this is a must see in Mogilev. |
