Palace of bishop George Konissky

Through the beautiful forged gates on Leninskaya Street, you can see an interesting building that can hardly be called a palace. The two-storeyed building in the Baroque style with elements of early classicism doesn’t stand out from the general historical landscape of the city, but its history is not so simple. The palace was built in 1762-1785 for Archbishop George Konissky, who later became the first saint of Mogilev, by the Vilnius architect Jan Glaubits. The town people considered the palace a special spiritual centre, thanks to which it became a gathering place for believers. During the international festival “Mighty God” in front of the palace a holiday of bell ringing takes place, reminding the residents of Mogilev of their holy countryman.
