The Cathedral of the Three Hierarchs

The Cathedral of the Three Hierarchs was founded in 1903, at the same time the laying of the first stone of the new temple was solemnly held. The architect P. I. Kalinin became the author of the project for the construction of the cathedral. In 1914, the temple was consecrated in the name of three saints of the Orthodox Church - Basil the Great, Gregory the Theologian, John Chrysostom. The decor of the cathedral is made in the pseudo-Russian style and resembles the architecture of the 17th century. The shape of the cathedral is cruciform, the cathedral has three entrances, each of them means the saints of the temple. Domes have different sizes. This cathedral was the favorite place of Emperor Nicholas II in the city. During the time of Khrushchev, the temple was closed, but since 1989 this sacred place has been opened to the people again.
